Installing synthetic turf in the Denver metro area requires addressing high UV exposure and challenging soil conditions.

High-Altitude UV Protection

At 5,280 feet, UV exposure is ~25% stronger than at sea level. Standard turf will fade quickly. Specifiers demand UV-stabilized polyethylene monofilament (min 8,000 denier) formulated with HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers), backed by a 15-year warranty against fading and degradation (see news-3216399).

Sub-Base for Front Range Clay

Denver’s bentonite clay swells and shrinks. Prevent seam pops and wrinkles with a commercial-grade sub-base:

  • 4–6" excavation
  • Geotextile fabric to isolate clay
  • 3–4" compacted Class 6 road base (95% Proctor)
  • 1/4" decomposed granite finish cap

Drainage & Infill

  • Drainage: Min 30 in/hr; 100+ in/hr for pet-friendly-turf to handle heavy monsoonal bursts.
  • Infill: Silica sand, antimicrobial coated sand (Envirofill), or Zeolite. Crumb rubber should be avoided as surface temperatures can exceed 150°F.
